What is Nextel

3M™ Nextel™ Ceramic Fabrics and Textiles is an effective and easy to install solution for industrial insulation. It is engineered to withstand extreme operational conditions in process heaters and furnace reformers.

Nextel Ceramic Fabrics can provide improved temperature resistance to internal and external tube seals and expansion joints or used as heat shields for radiant coils to prevent coke formulation and reduce premature aging of the tube surface.

Designed and fabricated by KLAY EnerSol, Nextel Ceramic Fabrics can be made into any shapes, as simple as pipe section insulation to as complex as a multi-tube furnace opening seal.

Why Nextel a good material

Nextel Ceramic Fabrics are oxidant resistant, chemically inert, lightweight, flexible, flame resistant and electrically insulating at high temperatures up to 900–2372°F (482–1300°C).

  • Good dynamic thermal and mechanical insulation properties
  • Low shrinkage (less than 3% over 15 hours at 900–2372°F (482–1300°C).

Why use Nextel

Nextel Ceramic Fabrics exhibit excellent dimensional stability and low thermal conductivity, as well as possessing non-porous and non-hygroscopic characteristics. They retain their flexibility even at continuous temperatures of up to 2372ºF (1300°C).

Nextel Ceramic Fabrics can be fully prefabricated. This allowed for a fast installation conforming to the irregular shapes within the furnace, requiring less costly labor and operational downtime.

Best Multi Tube Bellows

Tube seals or Multi Tube Bellows can be fabricated using Nextel™ Ceramic Fabrics to seal complex gaps in the fired heater or furnace systems. This solution can absorb the multi-axial movement of the tubes, whilst still retaining a near perfect seal on the interface between the firebox and the external environment.

By creating a flexible sealing solution around tube penetrations in furnace walls and ceilings, Nextel Ceramic Fabrics can

  • Significantly reduce cold air ingress resulting in improved furnace efficiency
  • Allow unrestricted movement of the tubes while maintaining complete seals.
  • Prevent harmful NOx emission
  • Withstand temperatures of up to 2372ºF (1300°C).
  • Reduce the possibility of tube damage due to rapid quenching.

Heat Shields Protection

Heatshields are heat reflectors for protecting the surface of furnace internals (e.g. process tubes, riser tubes, hangers, and brackets) against too much radiation heat.

Nextel Ceramic Fabrics serve a wide variety of high-temperature heat shielding applications in and around furnaces. Lightweight, flexible and featuring excellent resistance to thermal shock, they can be sewn into countless forms: heat shields to protect specific areas, pads for transporting high-temperature materials, or ties for securing an object within a high-temperature location.

In the petrochemical industry, Nextel Ceramic Fabrics are an excellent choice for heat shields due to the following

Furnace Lining

3M Nextel furnace lining system will help reduce dust, avoid product contamination and extend the lifetime of the furnace insulation.

Nextel Furnace Lining systems are oxidation resistant, chemically resistant, lightweight and flame resistant. They minimize erosion in ceramic bulk fiber modules and other insulating materials, which helps to reduce maintenance costs.
