Datuk Ir. Kamarudin has over 35 years of experience in the petrochemical industry where he was involved in operations, asset management, health, safety & environment (HSE), technical & commercial services, project & corporate studies, audits as well as business development. He started his career with ESSO followed by PETRONAS where he served in various senior management roles for more than 15 years.
His last appointment at PETRONAS was Vice President, Petronas Chemicals. Datuk Ir. Kamarudin served as a member of the elite PETRONAS Management Committee and was also a former chairman and member of boards of various subsidiaries and affiliate companies within the PETRONAS Group. He is semi-retired from PETRONAS since May 2017 and currently manages a consulting company providing artificial intelligence and machine learning to the oil and gas industry.
Datuk Ir. Kamaruddin joins the KLAY EnerSol advisory board as our Principal Advisor, guiding the management team in developing higher value-added offerings for the regional market and developing our strategy to ensure sustainability into the future.
Datuk Ir. Kamarudin bin Zakaria graduated with a Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), UK and a professional engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).

He is a popular speaker at International as well as National meetings and conferences on solar power, solar cooking, social techno-preneurship, community upliftment and sits on the board of advisors for a number of organizations including Solar Cooking International. Mr. Gadhia heads the solutions team and is Mentor to many start-ups under UNIDO CleanTech Global Cleantech Innovation Program (GCIP).
He is a Director of MSA Renewtech Foundation, a social enterprise focussed on renewable energy consultancy and whose Profits goes to Muni Seva Ashram a NGO in which he is Trustee.
He is promoter and Chairman of Sunrise CSP India Pvt. Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of CSP Sunrise based in Australia active in solar based Thermal and Power applications including desalination projects globally.
He is an advisor and long-time mentor to KLAY EnerSol especially in areas of renewable energy and business diversification and brings along a wealth of experience and guidance in operationalizing sustainable and scalable technology onto the field.
Mr. Deepak Gadhia holds a degree in “Process and Environmental Engineering from TFH Berlin and has done Post Graduate Degree from TU Berlin, Germany &MIT of USA.
He is an amateur magician in his spare time.
Yunus Sajad Hussein has spent over 20 years immersing himself first in the Downstream Oil and Gas sector, but since expanded to the O&G Upstream as well as Power Utilities, Marine as well as other industrial sectors.
He started his career with Shell International, at their technology centre in Amsterdam and then in the Shell Global Solutions International offices in Kuala Lumpur. He specialised in hydroprocessing and distillation technologies and was involved in R&D, conceptual and front end engineering design as well as site-based consultancy.
He then moved on to the Pulau Bukom Refinery in Singapore, Shells’ largest integrated Petrochemical-Refinery site in Asia. He assumed the role of Senior Technologist and was responsible for day to day as well as medium/long term monitoring and capex projects covering a range of technologies including Crude Distillation, Hydrotreating and Acid gas treatment systems amongst others.
He founded KLAY EnerSol Sdn Bhd in 2011 with the objective of providing inspired, value-adding and technology driven solutions. He has guided the company in partnering effectively with some of the worlds’ leading technology providers in achieving these goals and thrives on providing unique, out of the box solutions for our clients. He feels strongly about nurturing young talent and constantly strives to stretch them to their full potential. He also has a keen interest in entrepreneurship and is supportive of bootstrapping young entrepreneurs and volunteers his time regularly in informal and formal mentoring of driven and dynamic individuals.
He graduated from Queens’ College, the University of Cambridge with a BA and MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering, and is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers, IChemE.
Mohd Sazri has over 16 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry with strong knowledge of Oil & Gas upstream construction projects particularly in project management, corrosion, inspection and material selection. He then broadened his exposure to the Oil & Gas downstream sector, petrochemical, refining, marine as well as the power generation industries.
He started his career with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd in 2004 based in the Petronas Twin Towers Kuala Lumpur as a Materials, Corrosion & Inspection Engineer. He was next assigned to Teluk Ramunia and Pasir Gudang, Johor as a Construction and QA/QC engineer as part of the fast tracked project construction team for 3 offshore platform projects, delivering them on time and on budget.
In 2008 he was entrusted to join an International Petronas outfit and transferred to Petronas Carigali Turkmenistan Sdn. Bhd. in Turkmenistan. He was responsible for QA/QC of the Onshore Gas Terminal construction works there before deciding to return to Malaysia in 2010.
In 2011, he joined KLAY EnerSol and was pivotal in guiding the company in its efforts to supply goods and services to Petronas as well as the power industry. He joined the core leadership team of the organization as our COO and has been instrumental in growing the sales revenue as well as expanding the products and services the company offers over the years. He is fully involved in the end to end processes of the company, from driving strategy, new product development, to marketing and sales and operations. He has a strong interest in developing technology-based solutions and always strives to push the envelope in delivering value to our customers. He is driven, tenacious, with exceptional techno-commercial instincts, able to spot opportunities with a balance of risk versus reward. He’s also our resident geek and is often seen moving around with multiple phones, tablets, smartwatches and other connected devices.
He graduated from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) with a Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Hons) and is currently pursuing a part-time MBA with Universiti Tun Abdul Razak.
Mufaddal H Zanzibarwala has spent over 10 years in the Oil & Gas Industry, predominantly in technical sales and business development. He has experience in a range of industries including speciality chemicals, petrochemicals, power generation, oleo chemicals, nano-technology, waste treatment and marine industry.
Having graduated from the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus with a BEng(Hons.) in Chemical Engineering, Mufaddal started his career in Pakistan in sales for commodity and speciality chemicals and led efforts to successfully establish a business segment focusing on the export of speciality chemicals to the USA for hydraulic fracking. Mufaddal was instrumental in all aspects of successfully setting up this business including identifying local manufacturers, QA/QC inspections, complying with customer requirements and engaging in price negotiations.
Subsequently, Mufaddal moved to Malaysia in 2012 to pursue an opportunity in the field of Nano technology. He joined as a Business Development Executive and worked on the technical and commercial fronts to introduce nano-enhanced products to the market. He was involved in market research, strategy, R&D, lab trials and field trials for some of the products for local and overseas markets.
Leveraging this strong experience, in 2016 Mufaddal joined KLAY EnerSol and has been part of its growth journey since then. He quickly aligned himself with the company’s growth plans to venture into in-house manufacturing and offering innovative solutions to customers and has been instrumental in developing some of our most promising in house products and services. Mufaddal has also embraced leadership opportunities by leading a team of engineers in managing day to day business development opportunities and spearheading some of KLAY EnerSol’s major projects with key clients which allowed him to better appreciate the broad range of client solutions that KLAY EnerSol offers.
Mufaddal aspires to continue leveraging his past experience and guidance set by the more seasoned leaders in the business to grow the business he truly feels passionate about. He is an avid hiker and cyclist and is rarely seen at home on the weekends.
